    System update / upgrade

Hello,Some questions before starting the upgrade, I have the Win10 iso file (Hebrew).1. First I'm going to uninstall AVG antivirus, then make with macrium a full backup.2.Shell I unzip the iso file or mount it ?3. Do I have to be online while the upgrade runs ?4. How do I know that windows defender is on, or no defender since system is upgrading ?5. When finished (hopefully), what about updates ? and installing a new antivirus (Avast)6. Language problem remains, (checked languages in current system, English is installed)Made a search and found someone asked same question on some forum, and I quote:"Question:Hi.I'm using MediaCreationToolx64 to upgrade to windows 10 from windows 7 Pro.I have win7 with English menus, even the locales setup to United state as I prefer English menu. After the tool finish to download and verify the version, it automatically jumps to Hebrew. (as i'm from Israel)I have nothing in the formats of the current windows suggesting Israel, expat maybe the Time Zone. After some Hebrew menus pops up like the license agreements and so on, it comes to the "Save information" menu which states that I cannot save me whole settings because I'm installing windows with different language.""Answer:"Cross language upgrades are not supported, the free upgrade will be installed in your local language."
End of quote. How I bought my computer is a long story, some time I let you know.Answers will be appreciated. Thanks

    :)

Windows 7.1 system 64 versus system 32 upgrade

I have a windows 7.1 system 64, on the upgrade of windows 10 it tried to install a system 32. Now my system does not work. My computer will start up and open the icons, then after about 1 minute the screen goes blank. I can see my wifi working as well as
being able to control/alt/delete. I am unable to remove the windows 10 upgrade.

Can someone help as my laptop is not working.

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Forums.

Start by opening Settings – Click Start > Settings or type Settings in the search bar and click it or press Windows key + I

    Click Update and Security

Click Recovery then click Get started under
Go back to Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1
(depending on the previous version you running)

Here you can make selections why are going back to your previous version of Windows along with additional details or you can choose just one and click Next.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Motim

    1) Doesn't hurt to uninstall AVG before upgrade, maybe even see if they, AVG, have complete uninstall tool to get all the bits.

    2) You can mount ISO.

    3) No you do not need to be online but it will want to update once you go online.

    4) After the update and assuming you are doing 1703, go to settings, Update and Security, second or third line down is Defender. Click the heading, results on right side.

    5) Yes you need to do updates if you don't do updates with upgrade.

    6) Defender is a really good product, has really come a long way. Kaspersky has even sued MS over unfair competition. Avast is also good. Plenty of members just use Defender.

    7) Language - not sure. I believe you are on Windows 10 Version 1511. Is it English or Hebrew? The example you gave was for someone going from 7 to 10. You are going from 10 to 10, at least I think you are. I could be off base.

Comment - If you use the Media Creation tool and create a USB you will have external bootable media should Windows fail in some manner. If you have 8 GB key it is simple to create and when done you plug the key in and type Setup.

I assume you were going to do this same thing with ISO only unless you create DVD's you won't have bootable media on hand for an emergency.

Others may have other answers. Good luck, you should be fine. I like the Macrium step.

Yes, the same restriction applies when upgrading an older version of 10 to a newer version. You must do the upgrade using an iso/USB for the same language as the base language of your existing system if you want to keep your installed apps and all your settings. To find out what language your system is, open a command prompt and type SYSTEMINFO then look for the line that says "System locale:". There's a lot of information, if you prefer you can use the following command to display just that one line:

    systeminfo | find "System Locale"

Whatever language it says, that is the language of the .iso or USB that you need to make with Media Creation Tool. If it turns out to be Hebrew then after the upgrade you will have to add the English language again if that's what you want to use. Your current language packs are for the old version and will be lost in the upgrade, the only language pack that gets upgraded is the base language of the system.

    Hello,
    Thanks for the answer.
How do I add the English language after the upgrade and where from, do I have to pay for it ?
    Thanks

    Settings > Time & language > Region & language

The language packs are from Microsoft and are free. You can add as many as you need.

Hello,Thanks for the answer.Just to inform you, preparing to make the upgrade, started to uninstall AVG antivirus. First used the normal uninstall, then the AVG removal tool, and yet there were still files left in file explorer, had to delete them one by one. Then searched the registry - it spreaded like cancer.I think not to reinstall it after the upgrade.By the way, I found Avast is just a pain like AVG.Now for the first time I saw Windows Defender, updated it and ran a scan.Have in mind list of antivirus programs:Avira and Comodo.Would like to have your opinion about them, or remain with Windows Defender. With the Win10 upgrade iso made also a dvd disk, from where is prefered to run the setup ?Thanks

  9. I would just stay with Windows Defender. You can add another product and running it on demand just as a second sets of eyes.

I would just run from DVD. Proves DVD is whole.
