    Tablet Mode Disabled From Surface With Windows 10 After Update


    After installing the Windows update today, I can no longer switch my Surface to tablet mode. The selection box on the notifications screen is greyed out and I can't select. "Use Tablet Mode" is also already selected on the settings screen, however my Surface is stuck in Desktop mode. Please advise how I can get tablet mode re-enabled on my Surface. Thanks.

    You can disable tablet mode in settings

    Disabling Tablet Mode :

    • Go to the Tablet Mode tab under Settings -> System -> Tablet Mode
    • Toggle the "make Windows more touch friendly" option off.
    • Select whether the device switches modes automatically ->change to Dont Ask/Don't Switch.

    Hi,

    Tablet mode is a new feature that should automatically activate when you detach a tablet from its base or dock. Also, in tablet mode, the Desktop is unavailable.

    To disable the Tablet mode in Windows 10, you may follow the steps below:

    • Click the Start button.
    • Launch the Settings app.
    • Tap on System in the left pane of the screen; then, scroll down to the bottom until you see
      Tablet Mode.
    • Verify if the toggle is set to either on or off based on your preference.

    How do I permanently disable tablet mode in Windows 10?

    Hi Chris,

    Based on your description, it appears that the changes you made on the tablet mode settings did not retain.

    Kindly provide us the following information to assist you better with your concern.

    • Were you able to disable tablet mode before without disabling it all over again?
    • Have you checked with other Windows 10 computers if the same issue is happening?
    • To when are you encountering the issue? After you have restarted your device or right after disabling tablet mode?

    For the meantime, let me share with you the steps below that should disable your tablet mode.

    • On your Cortana, type 'tablet mode', and then press
      Enter      .
    • Select Table mode.
    • Under 'When I sign in', choose Use desktop mode.
    • Under 'When this device automatically switches tablet mode on or off', click
      Don's ask me and don't switch      .
