No, it isn't. It's Core Connected. That means Windows 8.1 with Bing - which upgrades to Windows 10 Home (with nothing after it, again, not N, not KN, and NOT SINGLE LANGUAGE!)

That would be logical if Showkey reported that the Windows 8.1 product key was for Windows 8.1 Single Language, but that is not what showkey reported.

  2. As I recall, the Windows 10 installation process didn't offer me 'Windows 10 Home' as one of the choices.
Home Single Language was the only 'Home' version available to choose.

You need to download just plain "Windows 10". That's it. Nothing behind it. Just plain "Windows 10". You do have to pick 32-bit or 64-bit.

Then when the install starts, after you click "I don't have a product key", it will ask you if you want to install Home or Pro. With the November update (build 10586), Microsoft combined Home and Pro into the same setup files.

The download options confuse a lot of people. The one listed as just Windows 10, is a multi edition ISO that can install Home or Pro. Quit a few see the 10 Home but miss the Single Language part of just don't know what it actually means. You'll have to download the correct ISO and start over. SL will only accept SL keys. You need the one listed simply as Windows 10.

    Hi,

You're correct. I mistook the slmgr /dlv output for what he had originally but that's just what he had installed.

    Sorry 'bout that. *Redface

I agree that the download options can be confusing. Had me fooled a couple of times too.

  7. Oh yeah, I see lots of "where is Pro" posts. The other gotcha is if the checkbox for "use the recommended options for this PC" is checked. That will change the options based on what OS the PC your downloading on is running.

Thanks for bearing with me. I think I just might have selected 'Home Single Language' at the point of downloading the install media *Redface. I am now downloading the 'Windows 10' one.

Good support guys... I do wish MS will get over Single Language like they did with Bing edition...

Mark, you can try to run DISM /Online /Get-TargetEditions from command prompt - if it lists Home you can upgrade directly with the generic Win Home key as well... altho' a fresh iso (that includes Home) may be better for future installs.

  11. markweatherill, did you download Windows 10 from Tech Bench?
I downloaded it using MediaCreationTool, which had automatically chose the appropriate version.

  12. Yes, and no? If your not downloading it on the PC you plan to install on, you can end up with the wrong version. Or if you already have the wrong version installed, it will just download that same version all over again. It's a nice feature, but it has pitfalls/gotchas.

  13. Tablet upgrade, retrieve 8.1 key

At last - I installed Windows 10, at no point did it ask me for a product key, and it's finished up with Windows 10 Home, activated.
    Phew!
    A learning experience. Thanks all!

(The installation media was created using the Media Creation Tool, create USB media for another computer option. And made sure to choose 32-bit for this tablet)
