    Target of file shortcuts in no longer present when using explorer in Window 11

    II have an external HD that contains a lot of data. On that HD I have some folders created containing shortcuts to many folders on that same HD. These shortcuts all worked fine when using the HD with my old laptop running on Win 10When I connect my external HD to my new laptop using Windows 11, about 30% of the shortcuts are dead the info in the target box is empty and the icon has changed the "blank piece of paper one", not the default shortcut icon anymore.Any suggestions?

    :)

    The ".exe" file that the shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete the file ?

    Assuming that the program is now installed, do the following;

    • Delete the shortcut
    • Open Windows Explorer and navigate to wherever the program is located (presumably something like C:\Program Files\Gretl\gretl.exe or C:\Program Files (x86)\Gretl\gretl.exe)
    • Right-click on gretl.exe and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)"

    If the new shortcut doesn't work,

    • Right-click on the shortcut you just created and select "Properties"
    • You should be on the "Shortcut" tab; right-click the "Target" box and select "Copy"
    • Paste the contents of the Target box in your next Reply here.
    • Does the Target correctly show the complete path to gretl.exe? If not, was is the complete path to gretl.exe?

    I would suggest you to try the following steps and check if that helps.

    • Go to the folder C:\Windows\System32 and sort by file type.
    • Look for the screensaver file type (.scr).
    • Find the file scrnsave.scr(you can choose any of the screensavers).
    • Right click and select send to>desktop (create shortcut). The shortcut on my attachment, but when i click on it my screen goes off and on and nothing else.Target of file shortcuts in no longer present when using explorer in Window 11 :)
