Windows 10: Task bar on Windows 11 with extended display.

Just installed Windows 11 upgrade. I am using extended display on an external monitor from my laptop and don't have access to the calendar and all the icons volume control, internet access etc that are in the lower right side of the main display. The date and time are displayed but no calendar when you click on it. Windows 10 had this functionality, it is a pain to have to flip back and forth between displays to get the date for an upcoming meeting and such.

Is your computer’s Operating System updated?

How about your Audio drivers, can you check if it is updated and can support HDMI audio output?

If your answer to those questions are yes, then you can check these steps to setup audio for your extended display:

• Connect your laptop to the extended display using the HDMI cable.
• On the lower right side of your task bar, right click on the Audio icon.
• Select Playback device
• If you don’t see your extended display (T.V) you can right click on a blank space on the Playback tab and select Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices.
• One your extended display (T.V) is showing, please check if it is enable.
• Then Select OK.

Do a test and check if the audio is now playing on the extended display, if issue still persists, try to restart your computer without removing the HDMI for both devices.

Windows 11 annoying very big task bar.

↑ This is, for the most part, my exact fix. The issue may randomly appear as I work during the day, occurring maybe once a week or less.

1. I go into Display settings and disconnect the offending display
   
2. Instead of simply reconnecting, I have to Duplicate the main display onto the offending display, THEN
   
3. Extend the display to auxiliary displays
   

If I try to go directly to reconnecting, it does not fix it. I always have to go through each step: Disconnect-Duplicate-Extend

I sincerely hope that Microsoft finds a fix to this "bug." It is annoying and distracting.

Slight variation.... I have three monitors, problem was on only one, I tried disconnect then reconnect - no luck. I tried disconnect-duplicate-extend no luck. I then tried disconnect-duplicate-[uncheck remember window locations/Minimize windows] - extend, and hey presto back to working normally.

Thanks everyone for the help, I would not have thought of this combination on my own and it was really annoying me.....Please Microsoft fix this, or let us unlock the task bar again!!!!

We would like to know more information from your end to know what is the next possible step that we can offer for you to resolve your issue.

• Were you able to get an audio on your extended display before? Or is this the first time that you will set up an extended display with your computer?
• Aside from the HDMI cable, have you tried using VGA cable instead to connect to your extended display?
• Can you verify if you have any audio on your speakers if you are not connected to the extended display?
