Windows 10: Task bar, start menu, command prompt has all stopped working

Task bar, start menu, command prompt has all stopped working, can can’t do anything. Can anyone help?

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

• What exactly happens when you try to access Start menu? Is it not responding?
• Are you getting any error message?
• What exactly happens with taskbar? Is it freezing?

You may follow the steps provided below and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1

Step: 1 Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip:
Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.

Step: 2 Click File > Run New Task

Step: 3 Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”

Step: 4 Type PowerShell

Step: 5 Type the following in the PowerShell prompt:

$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest

Step: 6 Close the PowerShell window

Step: 7 Reboot

Method 2:

I would also suggest you to run the System update readiness command. It detects incorrect manifests, cabinets or registry data, it may replace the incorrect data with corrected version available. Follow the steps.

• Press Windows key + X.
• Click command prompt (Run as administrator).
• In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press
  Enter key after each command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type
Exit, and then press Enter.

Windows 10 Start Menu and task bar not working

This has been troubling me for a while now. I've done everything you guys have said. This is the common reply I'm getting everywhere:

Method 1:

This issue may happen due to system file corruption. I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly
follow the below given steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X, select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
  
• 
  In Command prompt type sfc/scannow and press enter.
  

Restart the computer.

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps:

• 
  Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
  
• 
  In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  

• 
  Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.
  
• 
  
  This method did not work for me at all. Tried it multiple times. No use
  
• 
  

Method 2:

If issue persist, Kindly follow the below given steps and check if it helps:

Run these commands:

• 
  Type Powershell in Search Bar, right click on it and Open as administrator .
  
• 
  Type the following command in Powershell and hit enter:
  
  Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
  

This method worked, but the affect went
away once I restarted. It's painful to keep doing that method everytime I switch on the pc.

Start menu not working

I found the following article, ran the suggested powershell command and my start menu is working again. Here it is as I found it:
Go to Start menu button and right click on it. This will open the contextual menu, after which you need to select Command Prompt (Admin). Once Command Prompt is open, go ahead with the following steps.

• Type and enter: Powershell
• Type the following: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
