3] Perform a full scan for Malware


Full-scan your PC with your antivirus or anti-malware tool to find if any virus or malware is resulting in the random pop-up of the Task Manager.

6] Perform a Clean Boot


In Clean Boot State, only the essential programs of Windows and drivers will run. No third-party applications will not run. If the Task Manager is not opening randomly on Clean Boot mode, it is the error caused by a third-party application you installed. You have to figure it out manually by turning it on and off and restarting your PC to Clean Boot mode.

Task Switcher randomly gets stuck cycling windows


Good morning!

I am having an issue with the Task Switcher (see image below) activating on its own. It then begins to cycle through the open tasks very rapidly. When this happens I am unable to actually select any of the tasks, nor can I close them out. Windows is essentially frozen at this point and I have to restart.

A few things to note:

• I am running Windows 10 Pro.
• This happens randomly, sometimes weeks between an incident.
• Sometimes it happens while I am not even working at the computer. I've noticed it after returning to my desk.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

One of the possible causes why you can't open the Task Manager is due to some task which is running in background. Having said
that, we suggest performing the suggestions posted by Singh Sarandeep in this
thread. Quite a few people found his suggestions helpful.

Note that the information in the thread applies to Windows 8.1, but still applicable to Windows 10.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
