We use role based access and currently have local groups for all users and admins on a Windows 2016 Server. The role membership includes AD groups where AD members are added. The QA team members are non-administrators and access the QA server using RDP.Our QA team members need the ability to view and execute the tasks in task scheduler.I found this article:For security reasons, a non-administrator user cannot view nor manage a Windows Task Scheduler task that was created by another user.https://le

Windows 2016 - Scheduled Task Access for non-admin Domain users

    Hi,

We are unable to provide access on scheduled tasks for non-admin domain users. This is doable in windows 2012 by adding the permissions to C:\Windows\System32\Tasks folder but it is not working in windows 2016.

How do we handle this in windows 2016 ?

    Thanks

  3. Windows 10 Task Scheduler: schedule to run an .exe file

Well you should select "Change Settings for all Users" in photo above.

It might not run in admin mode, it was only a suggestion. Or if it did in admin mode, you would probably get the pop up security box on start up to select YES to allow it to run.

Task Scheduler, There are 5 tabs to set it up. You may need to set them all up. Different apps and services need to be set differently.

You may have to also take ownership of the file to run and add yourself in the list with full permissions.

    Good Luck.

There are tutorials on web for creating tasks.

No permission to disable a task in Task Scheduler

You keep talking about a "folder". Task scheduler items are files, not
folders, even though they have no name extension (i.e. no full stop or anything else to the right of the name).

I suspect the task is protected through its entry in the registry. You need to open the registry editor (regedit.exe), then do this:

    • Navigate to this key:

      HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Schedule\TaskCache\Tasks\
    • Find "UpdateOrchestrator", using Ctrl+F. It will be against a key such as

      {AB62362D-3EF5-4BD4-92E1-D96143FD8738}
    • Change the owner of the key to "Administrators"
    • Grant full access to "Administrators".

You then need to take the same four steps with this key:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree\
