Windows 10: Taskbar and Start not working properly

just booted up my pc and task bar and start are not working properly. start doenst open, cortana works, taskmanager fails to do any thing it doesnt respond. some icons in taskbar donot appear, firefox etc work. Please help me...

Hi Ashtyn,

It seems that your laptop is in tablet mode. For us to verify this, let's look into the settings and switch to desktop mode. Follow these steps:

• Open Settings and click System.
• In the left pane, click Tablet mode.
• Under Tablet mode, set the When I sign in option to
  Use desktop mode.

Once done, check if the start menu is closed and if the programs you have opened appear in the taskbar.

Desktop and Taskbar not working properly

I was working on my laptop last night, and when I finished, I closed it and let it sleep overnight, as I knew I would be resuming what I was doing first thing in the morning. When I opened it this morning, I signed in as normal, and instead of opening
to the desktop as it normally does, it has opened on the start menu and the start menu won't close to show the desktop. I have restarted it and it has had no effect. Programs open fine, but do not show up on the taskbar, and the previously pinned apps aren't
showing up on the taskbar either. I would really appreciate if anyone knew how to fix this.

 

Task Manager hanging up is mostly likely there is a process at fault. Did you run sfc /scan now and go through the steps in the Dism Tutorial? Have you rolled back your system to a prior System Restore point, before this started?

 

I didn't go to a previous restore point, i saw the issue and rebooted but there is no difference at all

 

Try doing the sfc /scannow and the Dism fix. It will not cause any harm on your system, other than hopefully fix things. DISM - Repair Windows 10 Image - Windows 10 Forums
