Taskbar buttons - Why do they display the WHOLE path not the folder??

In Windows 7. The taskbar buttons (not combined - the large version) displayed the current folder name in it. That way you knew which folder you were in and you have a decent overview.

If I had fx 3 folders open in Win 7 it would look like this:
Fx "CREATIVE FOLDER" "TEXT FOLDER" "BUDGET FOLDER"

In Windows 10. The taskbar buttons onbly display the whole path of the folder. That way all you open taskbar buttons display the excat same text - leaving you with NO overview and confusion.

If I had fx 3 folders open in Win 10 it would look like this:
    Fx "C:/USERNAME/PROJECT..." "C:/USERNAME/PROJECT..." "C:/USERNAME/PROJECT..."

Is there anyway of changing this very poor behavior? *Sad

    Regards
    Jonas

    :)

windows 10 taskbar window thumbnail / preview - full window name tooltip missing

    Hello,

    ---

    This is important:

In "Taskbar properties" I have this option: Taskbar buttons: "Always combine".

    ---

With new user account, the same behavior.

If you, for example, open "File Explorer" with whatever long path (it must be long path): "C:\Windows\AppPatch\Custom\Custom64", Can you see the "tooltip" with "full path" "C:\Windows\AppPatch\Custom\Custom64" when hovering mouse over the "taskbar button"
of the open "File explorer" task / preview window ?

When hovering the mouse over the "taskbar button" of the open "File explorer" no tooltip with the full path "C:\Windows\AppPatch\Custom\Custom64" is displayed and on the "taskbar window preview / thumbnail titlebar" I can see only incomplete path with ellipsis
    "..." at the end: "C:\Windows\AppPatch\C...".

Overall everything is working only the UI experience is a little bit complicated without the tooltip.

    Thank you, best regards.

  3. Display Net Folder name (not whole path) on File Explorer preview panes from taskbar

When I have multiple file explorer windows (or even just one) open but minimized in Windows 10, I'd like to be able to hover over it and see just the name of each folder I have open. Instead I see the whole file path that obscures the end folder path.

Any thoughts on how to change this setting?

Taskbar buttons - Why do they display the WHOLE path not the folder??

Hi, a lot of people have looked at this.. I'm a bit puzzled. Which taskbar buttons are you referring to? A screenshot would be great.
(SHIFT PrtSc or similar if you need to do a full screen screenshot and paste into eg Paint).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you want to open three File Explorer windows. There's no way (AFAIK) to change how the Taskbar displays the path to these folders, but there is a way to open them with an alternative shorter path to display.

I would assume you currently open these folders by starting at This PC, then go to the root of C: and explore down through USERS until you find them. Then you open each in a new window.

If you were to right-click on C:/USERNAME/PROJECT and select Include in library > Create new library you would have a library called Project containing your CREATIVE, TEXT, BUDGET, etc. folders. Open a new File Explorer window from this library and you won't have the full path displayed on the Taskbar (not even the Library name), just the name of the folder.

Yeah I think a picture would help. If I have multiple explorer windows open I see only the folder name and not the path.

It would appear that the OP has gone into File Explorer's File > Change folder and search options > View and ticked 'show the full path in the title bar' - that will do it. If they want to keep it that way, then the 'library' route should work for them.

With 'show the full path...' turned on, this is how the same Pictures folder looks on the Taskbar when opened in two different File Explorer windows. One is opened from Pictures in My PC, the other by exploring down from the root of C: to find it. The taskbar displays the text from the title bar of each window.

Unless the OP is referring to the title bar in the pop-up preview thumbnail if you mouseover the taskbar icon for file explorer.
