    taskbar icons disappearing & desktop icons changing places after recent win. 10 v. 1909 updaate


    Since the windows 10 update to v. 1909 the taskbar icons are constantly disappearing and re-appearing randomly. Also each time pc is turned on desktop icons have been moved to different places.


    I have restarted many times and tried every fix I can find online all without results. Please advise

    How do I change Taskbar icon preview from Thumbnail peek to List peek in Win 10 v 1703?

    I'm running Win 10 Creators Update v 1703 build 15063.332 on a Samsung 850 EVO SSD \ i7 desktop PC \ R9 390 GPU with Crimson 17.5.2 drivers.

    How do I change the Taskbar icon preview from Thumbnail peek to List peek in Win 10 v 1703. It would be the same type of taskbar icon previews as it was in Win XP.

    Is there a way to change this natively in Win 10 v 1703?

    Cannot change desktop icon

    Sometimes a desktop icon changes from what it was to a plain white folder. Might be something I did but not sure what.

    To change it to the icon I want, I go:
    1. Rt-click icon > Properties > Change icon
    2. I select the icon I want from the thumbnails of icons.
    3. Click OK
    4. Click Apply
    But the icon does not change. It just stays looking like a white folder.
    HOWEVER, if I pin the icon to the taskbar, the icon on the taskbar does look like the icon I selected in step-2. So the change is registered with Win10 but the icon on the desktop just doesn't change.

    Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Desktop Icons disappeared

    Hi Kinsley,

    • Are you referring to the desktop icons?
    • When did the icons disappear? Did you make any changes to the system Settings?

    It's possible that your device is in Tablet mode. I suggest you to turn it off and check if the icons appear. To do so, select the
    Action center icon on the taskbar (the little message box next to the date and time), and then select
    Tablet mode to turn it on or off.
