Windows 10: Taskbar icons keep turning into generic icons on every restart of Windows 11

I have the issue where whenever I restart the taskbar icon cache looses track of the icons and puts generic ones in place.The work around I have is to delete the icon cache, restart, then open, unpin and re-pin each of the failing icons.Described here - Fix #4https://nerdschalk.com/taskbar-not-showing-icons-windows-11-how-to-fix/While somewhat helpful costs me time and money to resolve on every reboot.How do I get this bug fixed?Seems like no way for me to actually contact Microsoft Support...

System Icons on taskbar

Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

• 
  Click on the search bar on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Type system icons.
  
• 
  Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

NIGHTMARE icon in windows taskbar

Ok ... this is really an annoying thingy in Windows Vista that till today. My top wish list is to solve this !!! *Bang Head :banghead:*Bang Head :banghead:*Bang Head :banghead:*Bang Head :banghead:*Bang Head :banghead:

See attached pic ... for eg. open My Computer ... icon is of course as shown - the My Computer default Vista icon ... after you browse? *swoosh* kind of black magic ... it changes to that icon with the green arrow ... browsing back to My Computer it remains like that ... with the green arrow!!!

This happens to any and all folders ! ... When you load it ... it comes up with the default folder ... after exporing through folder it changes ... and remains like that.

For info : have tried a fresh installation of Vista to make sure that no bug got in. So must be some DAMN Vista settings

windows 11 taskbar icons are generic for some apps

I am having this issue and steps above did not help.

The DISM checks were fine (both completed successfully, no issues found)

and the Icon cache rebuild, completely successfully. However the issue persists.

I have a quick fix that helps, but after doing this, the issue has reappeared for me on subsequent reboots.

QUICK FIX (basically unpin and re-pin the icon)

• Click the generic icon to start the associated program.
  
• Right click on the same taskbar icon and select "Unpin from taskbar" (For me, this allows the correct icon to show, and since the program is running... the icon stays in place)
  
• Then, so that you do not lose the icon, before closing the associated program, right click the same taskbar icon again and choose "Pin to taskbar"
  
• Then you can close the associated program.
  

Hope this helps someone in the short term. In the long term, I am still looking for a fix.
