Windows 10: Taskbar not working, file explorer unable to search, and settings not working.

When I went to shutoff my computer last night, it said there was an update so I updated my computer.

Upon turning it on this morning I found something weird.

My taskbar is not working. I can still open up apps that are on it, but I cannot open the start menu, sound options, or internet options. Right clicking works, but the only thing that I can do it the task manager.


I tried to open my settings for my PC but it is almost like windows settings doesn't exist. I found a lot of things to try.


I tried making a new account on my computer. My PC will not do it.


My PC is missing the kb3036140 update, and I tried to mannually install that but it says

"Instyaller encountered an error: 0x800b0101


A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file."


I cannot run the command prompt as the administrator.


When I try to open the settings through RUN

it says, "The app didn't start."

File Explorer Search Not Working


I am trying to search in File Explorer (Windows Explorer, My Computer) and it will not find anything. I can copy text from a name in the list and paste it in the search box and it still finds nothing. I have looked at the suggestions that have been posted and nothing I find that is relative to this works. Anyone have any suggestions? I am running Win 10 Pro on an I3 coustom desktop computer.

 

my taskbar search is working sporadically

My taskbar search bar is working some of the time. For example, if I type in "TaskMgr", it will list taskmgr, and when I click on it, it opens my Task Manager, as expected.

But if I type in a file name or an app, like WinMerge, it will list them properly in the Search list, but if I click on them, either nothing happens or it takes me to the root window of File Explorer, instead of to the file or the app.

I ran through all the steps on this page, to no avail: Search isn't working on Windows 10? Try these fixes.

Any ideas?

• Click the Start Menu.
• Right-click File Explorer.
• Choose Pin to taskbar.
