Windows 10: Taskbar search automatically searchs for desktop

Now everytime i open the start menu the search box pastes the word desktop, in around 3 seconds, followed by enter- wich opens the remote desktop connection. Seems like a low effort hack job malware effect, but so far i couldn't find a virus, program or service responsible, so i wonder if it could be some sort of bug or unwanted side-effect in some way. Afterall nothing happens afterwards, even if the search opens remote connection one isn't stabilished, i never saw a malware do something halfway so maybe its something else?


Since my scans haven't found a malware i wonder if some malicious program added the behaviour to windows itself, be it on explorer, startmenu or the search itself via registry or something similar- if so where could i edit it back to normal?

• When you say "taskbar search function", do you mean the Start menu search field?
  
• Are you getting any error messages upon accessing the taskbar search?

Meanwhile, to help resolve your concern, we suggest that you run the System file checker and DISM tool to fix issues with corrupted system files that may be causing the issue. To do this, follow these steps:

• Press Windows Key + X on your keyboard.
  
• Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
  
• Type or copy these commands followed by hitting Enter:
  
  sfc /scannow
  
  dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Taskbar search

Did not do anything to help. The search in File Explorer works fine. The first and last screen shot shows a search leading to no results but the file explorer finds them just fine. The last one shows my indexing options.

This issue with search box may happen if it's hidden from the taskbar.

To resolve the issue, follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the taskbar and select Search.
• Select Show search box.
