Windows 10: Taskbar shows selection box

My taskbar suddenly have this selection box thing that I have to click twice on any of the apps in order to open it up. Any ideas I can turn this box off? It's not like an urgent problem but it's still very annoying to do it every time.

This issue with search box may happen if it's hidden from the taskbar.

To resolve the issue, follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the taskbar and select Search.
• Select Show search box.

Cortana - I do not have SHOW SEARCH BOX" selection!

answer could be as simple as:

• right-click taskbar > properties > 'use small taskbar buttons' (uncheck)

maybe now 'show search box' selection is viewable

Steps:

• Right click on Taskbar, move the mouse cursor on to
  Search option.
• Select Show Search icon (You will see Search icon beside Start)
• Select Show search bar (You will see Search bar beside Start)
