Find the folder where this file was downloaded, right-click and run as administrator. That's how I got it to run. Good luck.

    Taskbar/Start button not working!

This didn't work for me, but my internet does not work anymore. Wi-fi is turned on, but it does not connect. It shows the small computer icon with the red cross. How can I fix this?

also, none of the above solutions worked for me.
I have a samsung laptop which I upgraded from windows 7 to 10 about a month and a half ago. 2 weeks ago the start menu stopped working, when I try to open it it says: critical error, start menu stopped working. My Windows 10 version is Dutch :/ so no cortana, I tried every possibility I found on the web, none worked. Also, my taskar icons: volume, network, time and date, battery and message center don't work when I click on them, language does work.
I did a system file checker, no corrupt files were found.
I reinstalled all Windows app, no effect
    I have no avast Antivirus
I tried restarting in safe mode, when it starts in safe mode, it says (translated from dutch) it needs an app to open ms-windows-store -> in Dutch: u hebt een nieuwe app nodig om dit ms-windows-store te openen
I did a refresh of Windows 10 (without removing apps or documents, using the tool on this link: Windows 10)
I don't see 'All Application Packages' in the register-editor (as suggested here: Windows 10 Start Menu, metro apps, and taskbar icons not working - Windows 10 Forums )

All of the above didn't work. My girlfriend, who upgraded from windows 8 to 10, had the same problem after a few weeks. On that laptop the last thing I tried, refreshing, worked, all the other not.

The strange thing is that sometimes when I reboot it, when I click on the start menu button it doesn't give the error but still doesn't work, and occasionally (exceptionally) it does work, but there are no apps displayed

creating a new user profile seems pointless to me because it does not solve the problem, and a complete reinstall is something I only want to do if it's the only possible fix (documents, programs and settings)

Is the problem privacy settings? I have almost everything unselected

    I hope it was clear,
    thank you

I fixed mine by creating a new user account and deleting the old (corrupted) one. A silly solution but it worked. It was before I found this thread.

I ran through most of the ideas around the internet for this problem. This was the last one tried and it worked for me. First one listed nothing happened after the second one now it is working.

Thank you very much good Sir. I thought i would have to reset my computer. Really appreciate it.

BAT-file should solve any taskbar or Windows button-related problems.

It is amazing to me that this problem is so prevolent, can be fixed so many different ways, and yet is still happening to people. Pretty sad...

    Taskbar/Start button not working!

I have a Windows 10 laptop (upgraded from Windows 8) and everything is working ok on my account. I created a 2nd "family" account/sign-in for my Dad and when logging into his part of my laptop the start button & task bar does not work. Only the desktop icons are clickable. Not even clicking the clock in the lower right corner pops up the time & calendar. I'm completely incapable of accessing settings, file explorer, apps, etc from his account, but every thing is working fine on my side. I have his account/sign-in as "administrator" but still not working. (I've tried the PowerShell remedy & .bat file remedy suggested on this thread to no avail, please help).

Be careful with this fix. I tried it and ended up with no internet connection AND start bar still not fixed, so I couldn't get into adding back my internet settings.

This seems to be a very common problem - nearly everyone I know with Windows 10 has experienced it at least once.

The solution I've always found works:

Use Safe Mode. You probably can't enter safe mode with the old fashioned method of pressing F8 during boot - instead, from your desktop, press Windows Key/R > type 'msconfig' . click 'OK', select second tab 'Boot', tick 'Safe Boot', click 'OK' and restart.

Your computer will restart in Safe Mode (with Start button and taskbar working) - now repeat the procedure above but untick 'Safe Boot'.

    Hopefully you're back to normal!
