    Taskhostw.exe - High CPU Load


    Hi Guys,


    I have had this issue in the past but it seemed to correct itself for a few weeks but now it has returned. My machine has suddenly started running really slowly and it seems to be due to Taskhostw.exe. Here is a screenshot of the Windows Performance Monitor:

    This is the exact same issue I had before. It seems as though my CPU is being maxxed out which is preventing me from doing pretty much anything else at all.


    I have since reinstalled Windows 10 from scratch on to another Hard Drive and I still have the same issue. I have tried to follow god only knows how many fixes now but to no avail.


    Please can somebody assist me with this as I am currently unable to work as I cannot even run a Teams call without it struggling so much that I cannot hear anyone.

    I managed to solve the issue by switching from Sleep mode to Hibernate. You can read more about it in

    I had this problem on my HP ENVY laptop and couldn't solve it. It was driving me crazy, using the cpu and consuming the battery until I saw your post and I did what you suggested and now the problem is gone. I have changed sleep to hibernate and since then,
    not even just once it occurred again. Thanks for your solution Boyan.

    Some time passed after my post and I got some more info. These peeks happen once in a while, but when they happen it takes a long time with high CPU usage. What I do in these situations is I restart my PC and every time I get "Getting your PC ready" information,
    which gets me to the idea that it could be something with the Windows Updates maybe.

    It is interesting to note that it is not only "Time" passed as parameter to taskhostw.exe that is causing the issue. Sometimes it is "Event" and other times there is nothing.
