OK, I've been to HP.com and have found that audio CODEC is indeed an IDT, but is IDT 92HD73E. The AMD processor is indeed an A8-6500.

Windows 10 is trying to update to a Radeon HD 8570D processor and an IDT High Definition Audio CODEC! While the audio update may be OK, I'm not so sure about the processor.

Windows is also attempting to install KB 3053898 and KB 3053902, but those aren't making it to the finish line either.

If I can ever get back online with Windows 10, I'll file feedback, but first, I think I'll go over to hardware and see if anyone there knows why it's trying to install what I think is the wrong processor update.

  3. Drivers for HP machines & Win10.

Some drivers failed for me AFTER they succeeded - huh???? The devices work, so I just chalked it up to Win10 being brain dead for now.

The display driver WU gave me was just screwy - glyphs in the properties dialog. Backed it off, only to have WU update it again. backed it off, turned off device install settings, installed only the display driver through Device Mgr.
After all of that (uninstall, install, WU, uninstall, rename folders, cCleaner, install driver only) things settled down.
In fact, WU gave me the correct AMD IDE and USB drivers
(or one of my attempts to get rid of CCC did ?????) *Wink

How is Win10 installed (VM, separate part, 2nd drive, or VHD)? I'm running Win10 in a VHD and on a separate part (different machines). A VM will virtualize the HW, so all bets are off for that type of install.

AS usual, if Windows screws up HW drivers - go to the source. You know my methods *Tongue - start at a known base (HP downloads) and move up to newer drivers if issues occur (the OEM is the ONLY place I go - AMD, IDT (beats audio), Realtek, Synaptics, etc).

usasma, jcgriff2, writhziden, Laxer, and others maintain a great Driver Resource Table (should be the same information in both places):
Driver Reference Table AND Driver Reference Table (DRT)

The thing is with Win10 that Windows Update might try to 'update' the driver again
    - you might want to turn of Driver installation in

Control Panel -> System - > Advanced System Settings -> Hardware tab [ Device Installation Settings ] button

Partitioned 1 TB hard drive. Clean install.

Well, of course, I knew that! *Smile I did it with the RealTek audio driver on the laptop. What I do is tell HP I'm using Windows 8.1, then download the single driver I need, save it and then install it.

Good! I will go there and see what I can see before doing anything else.
Thanks, Bill! I will definitely stop the silly driver downloads, since it seems like Windows has lost its everlovin' mind!

Dayam! I wish MS would hurry up and send another update out! This one's the absolute pits and I cannot even cut/paste, carriage return, delete, create a double space between paragraphs or even quote with any reliability in Ten Forums!

There was nothing on either table you gave me and HP is holding their Radeon and IDT drivers close to their chests, it seems. Not sure I should download and install the whole "chipset driver" package.

Edit: I went to AMD and found that most likely for some odd reason, HP left out the 8570 from my "whateveritis".

It's listed as AMD A8-6500 APU with Radeon HD Graphics in the specs, while the AMD site has AMD Quad Core A8 Series APU for Desktop A8-6500 APU with Radeon HD 8570D.

IDT Audio seems to have gone defunct and the company IDT sold the Audio stuff to has no clue about it. It's just not found.

And that's my story and I'm sticking to it! This computer is less than a year and a half old and already parts of it seem to be obsolete!

  6. Run a Speccy (Speccy - Download - use the Piriform server) report and that might help explain the APU components better than HP or System Information (msinfo32).

If you publish the report, you can post the link here so members can see more details about your machine.

If you're curious: What Is An APU? [Technology Explained]

I guess you have to go to HP and select the 8.1 drivers (as you wisely have done) or accept Win10 drivers for the IDT driver (AC'97 codec?)
Tempo Semiconductor punts back to the OEM due to contract obligations.

If you still aren't sure, I can try to look around, but I'll need more information (HP model # ... or the support page if you have it *Wink )

After looking over your post, it doesn't sound that bad - please also post a Device mgr screen shot showing any device warnings.

    Thanks,

    Bill

FYI Bill, AC'97 is "legacy" audio (non-HD) which is an old standard. The IDT 92HD73E audio device in Wynona's HP computer is a high definition (non-AC97) audio device.

I did find a new Tempo/IDT Audio driver here (v6504) but it may not be designed for her HP computer and this new driver works on Windows 10 x64 only.
