Windows Phone 10 is it dead?

Well, looks like I may get my S8 sooner than I thought. Sad just the same.

  3. Must I downgrade from Windows Phone 8.1 DP to Windows Phone 8 for the final Windows Phone 8.1?

There is a temporary hold on upgrading from the developer preview due to some issues. If you downgrade you MAY get the final version of 8.1 sooner than if you don't. But the upgrades from the developer preview should be starting again in not too long.

What's specifically good about it? I think it would be better if they stopped the practice of supporting "legacy" hardware going back a few decades. Without this backwards compatibility, Windows would be much leaner, and people would have an incentive to update their hardware. Look at what Apple is doing.

It's GOOD news for people hoping to make use of their existing low specs machines. The number of low specs machines still in use today would still generate big profit for M$. And it doesn't take a lot of effort for them to make the 32-bit version. It's just a stripped down 64-bit version.
