Windows 10: Temp folder causes full drive despite being small (Drive fills up in minutes randomly until...

I have found a strange issue in an almost fresh install of windows 10.

Sometimes every few hours the C drive was filling up rapidly until nothing could be written anymore. Analyzing the sizes of files gave no clue. Nothing big was added.

Once i was able to see the usage go up 100GB over a few minutes without any files actually being written.

After a reboot everything showed up as normal again. chkdsk reported no errors.

Was not able to trace it to a specific process. There were no writes. Like something allocates a huge amount of space without using it.

Then i moved the tmp path to an empty ramdisk for testing and suddenly it filled up as well.

8GB used despite the only folder on there being the tmp folder with only 14MB of actual files (checked hidden files, checked directory trees as administrator. no clues yet).

Opening the drive raw in a hex editor also only shows an almost empty drive (only zeroes).



Are there good ways to show which process tries to access a drive?



I have not found any answers to this problem as its just so strange and completely different from "help my drive is full with files" because there are no actual files.



Any ideas where to look next?

C: Hard Drive Randomly Filled Up

There are different situations would cause C: hard drive randomly filled up:

1. Virus and malware may keep generating files to fill your system drive.

2. You may have saved large files to C: drive that you are not aware of. For example, the default download folder is located in C: drive.

3. Pages files, previous Windows installation, temporary files, and other system files may have taken up the space of your system partition.

4. There are too many large programs installed on C: drive.

There might be more reasons behind C: drive mysteriously full. You can use one or more of the methods below to clean up C: drive space in Windows 10/8/7.

1. Scan your computer for unwanted software or virus

2. Run Disk Cleanup

3. Delete hibernate file

4. Uninstall the large applications.

The Temp Folder keeps filling up my C drive, PLEASE HELP

The problem started when I updated my Windows 10 to the latest version (I think 1803) and then after one day my C drive was almost full (my drive is 190Gb and I always try to keep at least 100 GB free), I ran disk clean up but it just could free around 100Mb
then I start by uninstalling some application and it kept getting full again, Then I installed WinDirStat to see where the problem is, then I noticed that TEMP folder is around 90-95 GB!!!!! After that I checked to see if it is ok to delete the folder contents,
they said it is safe, so I deleted them. After few days the same problem occurred again. and it keeps filling up my drive, the speed is unbelievable around 1000 files in 10 minutes. I even tried deleting the folder content in safe mode, but as soon as I restart
my computer it started to make these files again!

Settings will not open, Edge has disappeared, and temp files are filling up c drive in Windows 10

My c drive filled completely with temp files a couple months ago, and at the same time I could not open settings (using the icon or the search box), or edge. At some point edge disappeared altogether - will not come up with a search. Microsoft Store icon
is missing. Through trial and error I was able to find and delete the temp files, but they are filling up again, and I do not have access to any of the settings functions to help. Temp files have increased by 30 gb in the last 10 days. I am not techy, but
can follow step by step instruction. Would really appreciate some help!
