    Temporarily disable Windows Update Reboot

Hello all, I'm about to have a meltdown caused by Win updates. I'm trying to recover data from a 8TB drive, and it's taking an unusually long amount of time (1+ week), but it's progressing and about done. The drive in question is on it's last leg and the BIOS fails SMART, I don't know if I'll have another chance to run this drive for a week. Is there any way to completely disable the reboot until this process is done? I googled this a few times, and there were a few things that made sense, but they were somewhat dated and comments led me to believe that policy updates no longer allowed this. In a corporate environment, auto reboots are a cool idea, but for home use it's not such a swell idea..

    :)

Win 10 update still wont download

    Try http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-10/windows-update-troubleshooter

Also, if you are using a non-Microsoft Anti-Virus product try disabling or uninstalling it temporarily. Reboot and see if the updates work. If they do then the Anti-Virus program is incompatible with Windows 10 and needs updating.

Chronic Windows 10 "reboots" that do not seem to update the "installed updates" list!

I just completed yet another clean up effort. It involved updating both Norton Internet Security which took two reboots to complete. Then I re-ran the Windows 10 Update troubleshooter, finding and "fixing" all issues, then once again rebooting, only to
find that the update mentioned above sits Pending Reboot and in the list of installed updates with the same comment, awaiting a reboot.

Is there still a way to use keyboard shortcuts to force windows to do a minimum reboot with all the stuff that belongs to third parties and outside the windows core temporarily disabled?

Thanks for the quick reply. Seems to be a handy tool. The method that takes (task scheduler) is an approach I tried, however in settings it states that it's still set to reboot. Does the settings menu not reflect the change with task scheduler?

I can't comment on that definitively - but they are two separate mechanisms- not necessarily designed to function in an integrated way.

So I disabled the reboot trigger in task scheduler. And because I had a wild hair, and I know how M$ is about getting their way about menial stuff, I swapped out the script to run from "reboot" to "lock PC". It never did reboot, but it was locked this morning. My PC only locks after a restart or cold boot, there's no timer for locking it. After logging back in and looking, the script was re-enabled and was set to default restart. So I guess until I can pull all the data off of the drive, I'll have to do a daily routine and edit that scheduled task.
