Windows 10: Teredo disabled by latest Windows update, unable to reconnect FH4 to multiplayer

My son and I play Xbox to PC online in the same house some weekends, and were fine Saturday morning, then unable to play at all after updating both laptops over lunch. Hoping someone can help with this.

Teredo stopped working on 2 laptops this weekend after a MS Win update. My son and I play Xbox to PC online in the same house some weekends, and were fine Saturday morning, then unable to play at all after updating both laptops over lunch.



We have

Xbox Series X : fine, FH4 connects and multiplayer works

Win 10 laptop : Xbox FH4 can see friends but can't connect

Win 11 laptop : Same

Both laptops worked before updating.

Both laptops also have the Steam version. This works fine and multiplayer connects, though obviously saved games are different.



Things that have not changed

Internet - it works fine

Router - no changes or updates

Security software - not change (Bitdefender Firewall is off and Windows Firewall is on as we found out last year that Bitdefender support were unable to work out how to not block Teredo with their Firewall)



Device Manager (show hidden devices) shows TAP-Windows-Adapter-V9 (not sure if that's relevant, some say look for a Teredo adapter but there isn't one explicitly named)



We've tried :

All of : Xbox Support

including Network Reset and reboot.

Some web answers suggest Group Policy using gpedit - we don't have it, it's the home edition.





Elevated CMD outputs (reboot) :

Last command can just as frequently show nothing changed and stay as disabled.

In either case multiplayer still does not work.

The Win10 laptop sometimes shows type=natawareclient, but still doesn't work either,



ipconfig shows Link-local IPv6 Address and IPv4 Address are present and preferred.



Any solutions?

I see Teredo problems are all over the internet but actual solutions seem thin on the ground

I've spent about 8 hours trying to fix this so far and despite being pretty IT literate I'm unable to solve it.

All I know is it is quite definitely a Microsoft update induced Teredo problem as 2 simultaneous instances can't be coincidence.

It's astonishing that a key feature is so easy to break and so hard to fix....

Have you tried to perform this procedure in the Local Group Policy Editor?

If you haven't tried it yet, perform the procedure below and see if it helps resolve the issue.

This procedure helped me when I had problems with Teredo

1 - Press Win+R and in Run type: gpedit.msc

When opening the 'Local Group Policy Editor' window

Browse to the following location:

Computer Settings > Administrative Templates > Network > TCIIP Settings > IPV6 Transition Technologies

2 - You must modify the following options:

"Set Teredo Client Port" > click on the option, when the following window opens, click on the "Enabled" option, "Apply and click OK

"Set Qualified Teredo Default" > click the option, when the following window opens, click the "enabled" option, "Apply and click OK

"Set Teredo Refresh Rate" > click on the option, when the following window opens, click on the "Enabled" option, "Apply and click OK

"Set Teredo State" > click on the option, when the following window opens, click on the "enabled" option, below select the "Enterprise Client" Apply option and click OK

Close the local group policy editor ans restart

 

Teredo is unable to qualify blocking multiplayer games

In setting under gaming, I can't setup Live multiplayer. I get Teredo is unable to qualify. This could block you from playing multiplayer games. Server connectivity BLOCKED.

I think I have checked all the fixes xbox suggests to be checked.
