Terminology (names) for standard Windows icons

In searching for information, and in writing documentation for myself, I'd like to know the correct names with which to refer to standard Windows 10 icons. Some I've found more or less accidentally by just browsing documentation (e.g. the 'Task View' icon), but others I haven't found.

For example, in the Start screen in Tablet mode, there's a left-arrow icon in the taskbar second from the left, and a 'hamburger' icon at the top left of the screen.

Is there a list anywhere with the accepted names for these and other icons?

    :)

What is a "Command Prompt" result? What the **** is a "result"? Is it a window? Is it a dialog box? Is it an icon? Geez, can you please use standard terminology for Windows objects? For the record, I get a black window with a prompt. There is nowhere in
this window I can click that will produce a "list of options at the bottom." This suggestion is absolutely worthless to me, and frankly, I don't understand how anyone else found it useful.

Hi, you'll need to do your own research, I'm afraid... unless you're lucky and someone comes along. I'm afraid I didn't actually read through that for you- just a pointer. MS doesn't produce rigorous documentation at the consumer level, and had significantly deprecated help.

That's OK, I wasn't expecting you to. I searched the document for every occurrence of 'icon', without finding what I want. A few icons were named, but others were just described (e.g.) by their position. Thanks again for the link.

I may have to just make up my own names, for my personal documentation. But it's a pity that there aren't standard names recommended by Microsoft. Communication depends on people knowing what other people mean when they use certain words; or if they don't, they know where to go to look them up (dictionaries). Circumlocutions can be used, e.g. 'the island state to the south of eastern Australia'; but it's handy to have the name 'Tasmania'. *Smile
