Windows 10: Text files saved to OneDrive have automatically converted themselves to RTF files

This has happened before one a much smaller scale, but this time its about 60 individual txt files that are now RTF for some unknown reason.Since windows doesnt have Wordpad anymore, all i get when opening with notepad is garbage.These files open fine on my samsung in either txt or rtf formatWhy would onedrive convert files to a format that windows does not natively support?Thanks for any comment on this!

Hi Michelle,

Some documents when saved takes up space due to its components. For us to help you with your concern, we'd like to know if your rtf file has images on it.

Meanwhile, if your rtf file has pure texts, we suggest that you follow the steps below to reduce the size of your rtf file:

• Compose your rtf file in Microsoft Word.
• Instead of saving, copy and paste your composition to WordPad. All the formatting is copied over too.
  
• Save the document with WordPad, and you'll get a significantly smaller file.

RTF file is only showing some of the saved file

If you don't have a backup, you may be out of luck.

You can try opening the file directly in Word -- do not save it as XML; Word can open RTF files.

Depending on a variety of factors, you may have an automatically created backup. Try the following:

• Right-click the file and select Properties
  
• Select the "Previous Versions" tab
  
• If you're lucky, there will be a previous version. Follow the prompts to restore it as a copy (don't overwrite your current file)
  

You can also Google for "repair corrupted RTF file." There are several options, both free and not free.

 

Saves log files ?

You can either read the files in Windows or my preferred method is.....

You can then run cleaner, you will see the log files listed, then if you right click you can save as a text file and then have a read. You may also get an "error reporting" log listed seperatly.
