Text messages to a landline - account recovery

I’m seeing a recurring problem with account recovery on Microsoft IDs I run a computer support company focused on home users. This is causing serious security problems and is entirely down to Microsoft making a foolish decision which they can reverse. Microsoft used to allow people to set up a recovery option of a landline phone number that used a robotic voice to read out the recovery code Google, Apple, and many others still have this facility. Microsoft dropped the ability to make voice calls and now sends text messages instead. Here’s the killer problem: lots of people can’

  2. Recovery and account

    Hi Sarang,

We appreciate you for being a part of Windows 10.

I understand that you have upgraded to Windows again after performing reset.

Have you tried to restart the system again to check whether the Windows 10 is downgraded to previous version?

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

As the Windows 10 creates the new user account automatically, I suggest you to run the Microsoft account troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Refer to the following link to download and run the
    Microsoft Account troubleshooter:

    Microsoft Account Troubleshooter

    http://download.microsoft.com/downl...B-A23B-5C3A6B5974E3/microsoftaccounts.diagcab

    Step 2:

As you have linked your Microsoft account in Windows 10, I suggest you to switch back to the local account if you wish.

How to switch to a local account from Microsoft account.

    • Press “Windows + I” keys to open settings (When you get the error “Critical error-start menu and Cortana not working”).

    • Select Accounts.

    • On the right side, it will show your current account with an option "Switch to a local account”.

    • Select “switch to a local account” and follow the steps to switch your Microsoft account into a local account. Once this is done your Microsoft account is safe and not linked with that computer anymore.
    Note:

    • You may not delete the recovery drive, as it will help you to recover the Windows in future if the Windows is not working properly.

    • If you are using Microsoft account to login to Windows 10, there is no option to disable the password and sign in to Windows 10 directly without entering password. If you are using Local account to login to Windows 10, you can
disable the password and sign in to Windows 10 directly without entering password.
Reference: Please refer to the below article and check if it helps.

I hope the above information helps. Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with Windows. We are glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

  3. Text Message Recovery

So I have never used this feature (I just have never gone back to read old text messages so I do not back them up) but had you turned on Text Message backup on your device before you sent it in for repair?

    Text messages

You can automatically back up your SMS and MMS messages to the cloud. That way, the next time you get a new Windows Phone, you can restore your conversations when you set up the phone. When you delete your messages from your phone, they'll be deleted from
the cloud as well, so you're always in sync.

To turn on text message backup

    • In the
      App list
      , tap Settings

      >
      Backup.

    • Tap Text messages, and then turn Text message backup on or off.

    Notes

    • Turning off backup won't delete previously saved SMS and MMS messages. To delete messages from the cloud, you'll need to turn on backup and delete the messages off your phone.
    • On Windows Phone 8, you can also turn Chat backup on or off.

    Text Messages from e-mail Account

Apparently you must have enabled this T-Mobile "My E-mail" feature by mistake.

    My E-mail messages arrive from 701 - Dash™ WM 6.0 / Wing™ / Shadow™

Because Windows Mobile® 6.0 devices do not support My E-mail, all messages from My E-mail accounts arrive on the device as text messages from the sender 701. To stop text messages from 701 and avoid these text message charges, follow these steps:

    • On a computer, log in to My .
    • Click the Setup My E-mail link at the bottom of the page.
      • NOTE: If you are using a Wing™ or Shadow™, the
        Setup My E-mail
link does not display. To work around this, click
        Not your phone?
in the upper-right corner of the page and change it to the MDA®.
    • Delete all of the e-mail accounts.
    • Set up e-mail on your device.
