"the audio service is not running" - all installed audio devices don't show up in control panel

Yesterday my computer crashed and on reboot it recommended to rollback a few days previous, so I did. and when it started up the audio will not work. never had any audio issues in over a year with the same laptop. when i left click on the sound icon in the bottom left, it begins the troubleshooting popup, and it says one or more audio service isnt running. not fixed. and a red X. I've spent the past hour or so searching up fixes online, including updating drivers, installing previous versions of audio drivers, going into control panel to look at playback devices showing disabled and disconnected devices and there are 0. none. nor will anything show up when i connect various headphones or earbuds. I tried going into the services window to manually start the windows audio which is set to automatic but doesnt start. it comes back with an error message saying

"windows could not start the windows audio service on local computer. Error 0x80070005: access is denied"

i am logged into my computer as an administrator, so I'm not sure why it is saying I dont have access.

so yeah now im here looking for a fix.

    :)

I can`t get the audio, on my lenovo thinkpad T420 running windows 10 I recently installed itunes and i dont know why, to work. I have restarted the audio end point builder and the windows audio services and I have gone to device manager and wnet to video
game sound controller and right clicked or bmaybe left but nanyway i disabled the driver then enabled it . then when none of that worked i updated the driver for the video game sound controler and chose to choose my own from a list found on the computer. I
updated the driver with the high definition audio device choice. that did not work either. what can i do the audio services arent responding in win 10

"the audio service is not running" - all installed audio devices don't show up in control panel

"No audio devices are installed" issue in Windows 10

I am running Windows 10 Pro on a Dell Precision 5510. My BIOS information lists my sound controller as "Realtek ALC 3266". But a couple of days ago I suddenly stopped getting any sound. When I go to the "Playback" tab in the "Manage Audio Devices" screen,
it says "No audio devices are installed."

In the Device Manager itself, under "Sound, video and game controllers", I can see an entry for "Realtek Audio" if I check "Show hidden devices" in the "View" tab. But it is greyed out.

I have tried running Windows 10 troubleshooting but it can't detect any problems.

    Suggestions?

    Don
