Windows 10: The Carrot in the task bar is gona and I can not get it back

The little carrot in the bottom of the task bar is gone. I have gone into settings and turned on the notifications and other options but the only thing that appears is the date and time and the pen settings. Nothing else appears.

• Right click on the Task Bar.
• Uncheck the option " Lock the Taskbar."

how to successfully pin files to the task bar

I use to be able to drag and drop files onto the task bar and they would reside withing the file list for that program. Since the recent upgrade it appears that I am not able to pin a file to the program on the task bar. Suggestions?
