Windows 10: The Close (X) button doesn't close forms when it is maximized, and an underlying window is...

My name is Alexander Tochilkin. I'm a software engineer representing the WinForms team at DevExpress company. Recently, we were reported that the Close (X) button of DevExpress forms doesn't close a form when the form is maximized. Instead, the form loses its focus and a window under this form is activated. Having researched this behavior, we found that the issue is reproducible when a 4k monitor is used in the following configuration:

However, this behavior occurs not only in DevExpress forms. The same issue is reproducible with standard forms and even with a Visual Studio 2017 window. Here is a video (issue.mp4) that illustrates the issue and a small sample project where the issue is reproducible:

To reproduce this behavior, do the following:



1) Connect three displays to your machine and configure them so that the main display is placed in the center as demonstrated in the image I attached

(see сonfiguration_1,configuration_2). I use the 4k monitor and 200% DPI settings.

2) Run the project, move the form to the main display and maximize it. Then, move the cursor to the upper-right corner of the main display and try to close the form. You can see that instead of closing the form, a window under this form is activated.



The expected result is that the form is closed.



It's important to resolve this issue because it may affect a lot of our users who use our forms (and even standard forms).

minimize/maximize/close buttons missing

minimize/maximize/close buttons missing on top right of screen how do I get them back pls

 

Close button stuck on desktop

I figured it out. It appears to be an issue with a recent update to Microsoft Teams. Teams was the only application I had that ran on startup and I was able to get it to show the close button after closing the window if it was on my primary monitor and
not maximized. Relaunching Teams, maximizing, and then closing would make the orphaned close button disappear. I was then able to have my coworker reproduce the experience on their PC.

 

Application shows ONLY the minimize,maximize and close buttons

Hi There,

I am trying to fix an issue where one of my applications in Windows only shows up with the minimize,maximize and close buttons available.

The application is usually a client with different funcions and buttons available but for some reason there is nothing but the functions mentioned above, the whole client is basically not visible in its entirety excluding those buttons.

I already went above and beyond the standard troubleshooting suggested for this application but I seem to be unable to solve the problem.

I was wondering if anybody has any idea whether this can be affected by Windows' related issues of whatever nature.

Please let me know.
