The Copy and Replace Dialog does not work as expected.

Running Win 10 latest vers. on an Surface. When I try to copy ANY files from ANY folder to a different folder they copy fine but if even one file is already in there and the Copy File dialogue box comes up that asks "Copy and Replace" or "Dont Copy" if I choose "Don't Copy" with the "Do This For All Conflicts" box checked NO files will get copied, whether they are there or not. So I have to individually click 800 times "Don't Copy" in order to get the 5 or 10 I want copied over to another folder. If I select Copy and Replace, then it does so. But, like a lot of folks, I copy a Master set of mu

Windows 10 no replace or skip file dialog box appearing.

When I copy a duplicate file I do not get a dialog box, just a file with the same name and copy added.

I have tried the following with no success :-

    Method 1:

Try resetting the File Explorer settings to defaults and see if that helps.

    1. Press Windows + E key to open File Explorer.
    2. Now click on View and click on Options.
    3. On the Folder Options window click on Restore Defaults.
    4. Now click on View tab and click on Restore Defaults.

Try copying the files with same names and see if you get the Skip or replace option window.

    Method 2:

Uncheck the Folder Merge Conflicts option and see if that helps. Kindly follow the steps mentioned below.

    1. Press Windows + E key to open File Explorer.
    2. Now click on View and click on Options.
    3. On the Folder Options window click on View tab.
    4. Under Advanced settings scroll down and uncheck the option Hide folder merge conflicts.
    5. Click on Apply and OK.

Replace or Skip Files dialog displayed when copying files

In earlier versions of Windows (XP, 7 and 8.1) when you copy a file to another folder and there is an existing file with the same name, you are presented with a dialog showing file details. This is useful to confirm you are happy to overwrite the destination file and also to catch situations where you were about to accidentally overwrite a file you wanted to keep.

But in Windows 10 you are presented with a chunky dialog with no helpful information whatsoever.

If you click Compare info for both files some file details are displayed.

But this is inferior compared with the one displayed in earlier versions. Issues include:

    • Information is less detailed
    • You must still select the file you want to retain or overwrite. If you forget to, perhaps expecting the overwrite to Continue as the button says...nothing happens and you end up not copying the file you want!
    • If the source and destination folder names are identical (as in my example), you have no idea which box you need to tick.
    • There are multiple extra clicks required for each file.

Awful. Is there any way to configure Windows 10 to use the original Windows XP/7/8.1 Replace or Skip Files dialog?

Replace or Skip Files dialog displayed when copying files

There is no way to modify the format of the
    Replace or Skip Files dialog.
Microsoft in its wisdom has decided that too many details are harmful to users,
and there is nothing you can do about it.

If you find the situation unacceptable, your only choice is to use another
    file manager or file-copy product.
