Windows 10: The default application window opens when download anything, how can I fix this annoying...

When I am trying to download any file from any explorer or web app or Pdf file, the default application window opens when I'm downloading anything.

Fixing default application to "Open With"

So what is shown in your Context menu when you right-click on a PDF file & hover over Open with?




And if you then select Choose another app? Is Adobe Acrobat available for selection & is the Always use this app checkbox now displayed?




And, if your Adobe Acrobat is not offered in the list, is it then shown if you scroll to the bottom of its offered list & select More apps?
And, if not, can you select it by scrolling to the bottom of that list & selecting Look for another app on this PC?

I've never been in this position but perhaps setting it this way might fix the lack of its being named in the properties dialog you posted.

Fixing default application to "Open With"

Unfortunately I do not have the install media anymore and both of these steps require AcroPro.msi
I previously tried Edit>Preferences>General>Select Default PDF handler (image attached) which failed because it could not find the AcroPro.msi file (image attached). It is stuck in this update cycle that I don't know how to get it out of.

Selecting Open With brings a context menu where Adobe Acrobat is on top of the list. Choose another app displays the Always use this app checkbox but even checking this box and opening the app does not change the Opens with: Unknown application to Adobe Acrobat in the file's properties. I suspect it is a registry entry that needs to be changed but I don't know where to find it.
