Windows 10: the device mass storage device - my passport ultra is not working.

As you can see the ss, the diskmgmt doesnt show the hdd and even in the devices and printer section at the bottom, mypassport ultra says driver error and needs troubleshooting. I have uninstalled all usb drivers and reinstalled manually as it was mentioned in one of the answers.sometimes it also says error 10 device cannot start.please help.

There must have been some corruptions that happened on the mass storage device's files, thus, the issue. Allow us to verify some details so we can properly isolate the concern.

• Have you tried plugging in the storage device to the other ports on the laptop?
• Have you also tried plugging it in on another PC's port just to check if it will work there?
• Have you done or received any updates on the PC prior to the issue?
• Was there an error message when you plugged in the storage device? If yes, can you send us a screenshot of the error? Kindly remove any personally identifiable information from the image before sending the file to us.

VMware-usb storage device not recognized

Hello,

I'm running Windows XP in Workstation Player on a Windows 10 laptop.

My USB CD/DVD drive is able to mount in the Player. So is a flash drive.

My Western Digital ssd (My Passport Ultra) is listed in "Removable devices", but fails to mount, giving this error:





In the Virtual Machine settings, the USB controller is using usb 2.0.

The WD ssd is compatible with usb 3.0 and 2.0, and is supported by Windows XP. My desktop computer running Win XP has no problem mounting the drive.

The device manager in virtual Win XP shows it as an "unknown device."

I've read everything I can find on the problem, and tried a number of suggestions from the knowledge base at VMware as well as solutions via google searches.

Perhaps the WD ssd just won't work on the free version of VM Workstation Player (v. 14).

Anyone have any suggestions?

how to change "USB attached SCSI mass storage device" to "USB mass storage device"

Go to Device Manager, right click the device and select 'update driver software' - 'browse my computer' - 'let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer' - then de-select 'Show Compatible Hardware', in the listed drivers you can select mass storage device
or (standard disc drives) - disc drive and then click OK
