I wanted to add java bin paths to the Path variable. I used the Environment Variables edit window to add the first path. Clicked on OK. Then checked it by using the lower corner window tab to increase the width of the Environment Variables edit window. It showed that the variable had been added. I then added the 2nd variable. I performed the same check and this time the added variable was truncated in display. I counted the characters out to the truncation - it was about 260. The Environment edit window added the 2 variable correctly, and it did show using $env ; and Java did work ok . It is the display of the path variable truncating to just ~ 260 that seems to be a issue (small). Shouldn't you allow ~4000 characters for display?

Extend NTFS 260 characters filename path limit

Hello,

I am trying to use the Windows 10 feature promoted
here and
here to extend the filename path limit beyond 260 characters (enable long paths in gpedit.msc, add LongPathsEnabled registry in regedit), but even if I follow the instructions to the letter, the limit still won't be removed.

Has anyone met this behaviour? What can I do to remove the limit?

I am using Windows 10 Pro, Version 1607.

This error appears when the name of the file/path names exceeds the 260 character limit . We suggest changing the name of the file/path as an initial troubleshooting in resolving the issue.
