How to delete and rename users

    Hi Mark,

Before we can help you rename the new user account on your computer, please answer these questions for us to get a better understanding of the situation since you performed a clean installation of Windows 10:

    • When you boot up your computer, do you see the original user account available for you to sign in to?
    • Is the new user account an administrator?
Doing a clean installation of Windows 10 involves formatting your hard drive. Therefore, your files in the old user account, including the user account itself, would be wiped clean. It may not be a clean installation if the files are still on your computer.

To proceed with renaming the new user account, let's first make sure it is set as an administrator on your computer. Follow these steps to check if it is:

    • Sign in to the old user account (Mark).
    • Go to Control Panel.
    • Open User Accounts.
    • Click on Manage another account.
    • Check whether it says the new user account (Mark_2) is an
      Administrator
      .
    • If it's not yet an administrator, click on the account and select Change the account type.
    • Choose Administrator then apply the changes.
Once the account is already an administrator, we can now delete the old user account. Here's how:

    • Sign in to the new user account (Mark_2).
    • Go to Control Panel.
    • Open User Accounts.
    • Click on Manage another account.
    • Select the old user account (Mark).
    • Click on Delete the account.
    • You can opt to Delete Files for the old user account.
    • Restart your computer.
To rename the new user account, follow these steps:

    • Right-click on the Windows icon on your home screen.
    • Select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Click Yes if you get a prompt window.
    • Type wmic useraccount where "name='Mark_2' " rename Mark then press
      Enter.

Let us know if you need more help.

    Optical Drive Issue

    Hi Jerry, you're welcome.

Here's mine after I rt clk'd on my Documents Folder like you show in Scrsht 11:

The move/delete/rename is not activate for one of my drive. [IMG]

I'd like to wait until you reply to my question in Scrsht 12, if it is a remnant of the process try deleting the one on the dsktp and see if the one in send to also disappears. If it stays in send to, test it, and if you're still having problems I'd suggest you could go back to: Option One: To Add or Remove Items in Send To context menu for Your Account (current user) and do Step 3 to remove it and start over using Step 4 but be very careful of your steps in creating the shortcut and be sure you d&d that shortcut to the send to part of the address.

I'm busy today and I probably won't be back until the evening.

Can't Rename Drive Label in Windows 10

I ran diskpart as suggested by @jl2509. This allowed me to name my removable USB drives via ThisPC Rename & Properties, Command Prompt, PowerShell and autorun.inf file. I elected to go with the autorun.inf file and created an icon for each drive. I formatted one drive NTFS and the other FAT32.

Just what I wanted, until ... I restarted my laptop. Got the following error on restart: "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press any key to restart".

I removed the 2 USB drives and was able to restart the laptop. Pressing any key didn't work ... the only "key" that worked was the power button.

Did a little research and discovered what setting a partition as active means. So I inactivated them with the following diskpart commands:

    list disk
    select disk 1
    list partition
    select partition 1
    inactive

All is good now. Thanks jl2509
