    The latest version of Skype (Windows Store app) is 12.8.487.0 and 7.40.151 for Windows desktop app.

    We suggest downloading the Skype desktop app here.

    If you're having problems with the app, we suggest posting your concerns on
    Skype Support    .

    I downloaded it from your link and ran the .exe. It sends you to the Microsoft Store.

    That sounds correct if done from within Windows 10.

    If you don't have the Skype app installed in Windows 10, it'll take you to the app in the Store to download and install.

    If you do have the Skype app installed in Windows 10, it'll open the Skype app.

    Unless you run the installer in compatability mode for windows 8, then it will install the "new" desktop version on windows 10. Very similar to the "app" version, but has the skype icon in the notification area.

    It may say it's the desktop app.....but it's the windows 10 skype app. That's what it opens and there is nothing different in mine. The download link doesn't let me download anything.....just tells me I already have the skype "APP". Then when I try to download this, I'm offered to Launch the app or download some linux versions and mac. As far as I can tell....there's nothing new. Am I missing something?

    Opening the skype app I see it says "Check out what's new"........so I'm confused.

    I used firefox and it downloaded the exe. I can PM you the direct link to the download if you want. Dont know if I am allowed to post it here. I think as long as you use a none microsoft browser, you should be ok to download it directly.

    I all ready have Skype classic.....aka the "REAL" Skype for desktop. Now this thread states that this is the new Skype for desktop when in fact it's just a revamped Skype app. MS can call the app what ever they want but it's still just the app and just more of MS trickery and blatantly misleading users.
