I have been getting quite irritated by this feature since getting Solidworks 2022. Previously used 2017Just to reiterate that... it DOES NOT happen using Solidworks 2017, only after upgrading to Solidworks 2022 do I get this issue. When I go to open a file via Solidworks the files will either be in larger icons or in detail listing, this part is fine. If I then double-click on a file, the preview pane will auto resizing during the first click I make... So if I have a folder nearby during this it assumes I'm dragging the file and dropping it. Other times it will just resizing the preview pane

windows update lead to solidworks crashing

My son uses SolidWorks on Windows 10. His computer is completely up to date and neither SolidWorks nor his computer have crashed. So you can't blame updates in this case.

People blame updates for all their troubles because it's much easier to blame big, bad Microsoft for everything than it is to understand why their problem happened and possibly take responsibility for it.

To be sure, big bad Microsoft causes lots of problems, but you can't automatically assume that. Here is

    SolidWorks technical support
, which is your first stop for diagnosing problems with SolidWorks. Among their many resources is the SolidWorks Community, where you'll be able to contact people who really know SolidWorks.

My son is 16 years old and he uses SolidWorks to CAD parts for his robotics team! Not many 16-year olds are doing that.

Solidworks File Preview in file Explorer not visable

    Hi All

I have an issue with Solidworks files not showing a preview in file explorer when using OneDrive or Sharepoint, but the same file will show as a preview when saved to Dropbox?

This affects 7 people In our R and D team and I have tried everything on the Solidworks support pages to no avail. The Team all use Windows 10 with a mix of devices.

    Any Thoughts

    Thanks

Solidworks File Preview in file Explorer not visable

    Hi Rob_S446,

Thanks for your post in the Microsoft Community.

I understand you're having issues with Solidworks file previews not working in File Explorer.

Here are some suggestions for this issue:

1- Determine whether the default open program for SolidWorks files is the corresponding SolidWorks program. In some cases, the default open program points to the SolidWorks main program, which may cause the icon of the related SolidWorks file to be displayed as the SolidWorks LOGO.

Confirm that the default open program for the three file formats (.sldprt/.sldasm/.slddrw) is SOLIDWORKS Launcher (X:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\swShellFileLauncher.exe) open program for the three file formats (.sldprt/.sldasm/.slddrw) is SOLIDWORKS Launcher (X:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\swShellFileLauncher.exe)

2- Start SolidWorks and check whether the option "Show Thumbnails in Resource Management" is checked in the "General" tab of the system options.

3- In the "File Explorer" tab, click the "Restore File Associations" button. Close the SolidWorks program and restart the computer. In the "File Explorer" tab, click the "Restore File Associations" button. Close the SolidWorks program and restart the computer.

4- Go to the system's folder options, in the "View" tab, make sure the "Always show icons, never show thumbnails" option is not checked.

5- Enter the "Advanced System Options" in the system properties to adjust the system performance. Make sure the option "Show thumbnails instead of icons" is checked.

6- If it still does not display normally, it is recommended to use the "local super administrator" account to repair and install SolidWorks, so that some dynamic database files that were not successfully registered during the previous installation process can be registered.

If it is still invalid, you need to manually register the dll file.

1- Find sldwinshellextu.dll, sldthumbnailprovider.dll two files in the location where SolidWorks is installed and copy them

2- Copy the two files to C:\windows\system32

3- Press Win+S to search for cmd and run command prompt as administrator

4- Enter and execute the following command:

The above command is to re-register all files with the suffix DLL in the system directory \system32\

    5- Restart SolidWorks

Disclaimer: In general, modifying registry subkeys or workgroups is designed for advanced users, administrators, and IT professionals. It can help with some problems, but serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. So make sure you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before modifying it. Then, if something goes wrong, you can restore the registry. For more information on how to back up and restore the registry, click here to view the article.

Personally, it is recommended not to modify the registry-related files easily, and reinstalling the software is an option. Please backup your files before any operation, in case something unexpected happens.

Let us know if it works.
