  1. The Recycle Bin on F: is corrupted... For the third time in two days.

I started getting this message yesterday and don't know what started it. But it comes back after much work.

I did not install anything yesterday and everything was working great for last month.

    My system is:

    WIn10 1903 18362.778, C:, D:, F: & E: is BR/DVD/CD

I do not have a purchased CD; mine is free Win7 upgrade.

I rebuilt my OS from scratch about one month ago because I had issues with drivers and remnants of long unused programs. This system is very clean. Office 365, three games ESO, Assetto Corsa, Priject Cars2 and Discord. The last thing I did before this started was to download a pdf manual for my racing wheel from the fanatec manufacturer website.

I have done this three times in 24 hours.

    To reset the Recycle Bin

Type cmd in Windows Start Search Box
Right Click on Cmd > Run As Administrator
    rd /s /q E:\$Recycle.bin
    Enter

After first time I have done:

chkdsk from command line and at reboot for all disks. A few <5 errors on each disk fixed.

scanned with Defender all files on all disks. No threats found

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

    sfc /scannow

    ** ALL completed successfully

But I found the permission on all the files in both disks D: and F: were bonkers

owner was someone named: S-1-5-21-3358...-1001 total of 46 chars

Then from admin cmd I ran:

    takeown /f F:\ /r /d y on F: and D:

and then had all top disk level permissions passed to all childs from properties / security

because the lower file/folders had NO permission assigned to the groups or users.

Does anyone have an idea of what is causing this?

    Happy Trails and Good Health

I forgot I did: first every time

    rd /s c:\$recycle.bin

    :)

    Recycle Bin is corrupted

    Hi SivrosJ,

Each drive contains a hidden Recycle Bin system folder, which are hidden and is used as a temporary storage when you delete files on that drive. Just as any other system files, it can also be corrupted and thus, giving you this error message. With that being
said, can you tell us if this F: drive that you have is a USB flash drive or a
    portable hard drive? Please advise.

In the mean time, I suggest that you perform SFC scan on your external storage device and see if it helps. Here's how:

    1. Type cmd on the Cortana search box, right click on the result and select
      Run as administrator.
    2. Type sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=f:\ /OFFWINDIR=c:\windows

NOTE: replace c:\windows with the correct
    drive
letter if Windows is installed on a different drive. Hit the Enter key and wait until the scan is finished.

Another step that I can suggest is to reset the Recycle Bin only to the F: drive and see if it helps.

    1. Launch cmd as an administrator.
    2. Type rd /s /q F:\$Recycle.bin
    3. Hit the enter key.
    4. Restart your PC.

Let us know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps. To notify us and have us get back to you, simply reply to this post.

    Hi George,

To prevent your files from being deleted from the Recycle Bin, we suggest increasing the maximum file size your Recycle Bin can keep by following the steps below:

    • Right click on the Recycle Bin icon.
    • Under the Settings for selected location, select Custom size.
    • Fill up the box for your allotted maximum file size for your Recycle Bin.
Let us know if you need further assistance.
