  1. The search bar on Windows is not functioning

I accidentally used a batch file and it changed the values of the registry. When I try to type into the search boxes on Windows, it doesn't allow me to type. I have found some keys that have been modified.Key: reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search" /v "AllowCortana" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search" /v "AllowSearchToUseLocation" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search" /v "ConnectedSearchPrivacy" /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

  2. Search Bar/Cortana

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your concern here in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 family.

From the description, I understand that you are still receiving the pop up notifications, despite having disabled the search functionality in windows 10.

Steps to disable the Search Bar

    • Right click on the task bar.
    • Select the "Search" option.
    • Select "Disable."
However, if the above steps don't work out, perform the below suggested steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Open a CMD window started as Administrator.

    Repair corruption: Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth.

Run this command next: Sfc /scannow

    Now run these two commands:

    PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Hope the above information was helpful.

    Thank You.

  3. how to manage return points and how to unpersonalize windows search function

    Hi Alifolie,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you have a couple of issues with your Windows 11 system. Let me address your questions step by step:

    1. Managing Return Points:
      • Recovery points in Windows are created to provide a way to roll back your system to a previous state in case of issues. To manage recovery points, you can follow these steps:
        • Type "Create a recovery drive" in the search bar and open the corresponding system settings.
        • From there, you can create a recovery drive or access System Restore to manage existing recovery points.
    2. Depersonalizing Windows Search:
      • To depersonalize the Windows search function, you can try the following steps:
        • Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Search and uncheck any options related to personalized results.
        • Additionally, you can clear your search history and disable online search suggestions to further depersonalize the search function.
On the first question if my understanding is wrong please feel free to ask.

As for managing recovery points saved in your Microsoft account, it's worth noting that Windows backups and recovery points are usually stored locally on your device rather than in your Microsoft account. However, you can use OneDrive for cloud-based file backup and recovery, but it's not directly related to system recovery points.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, if you have any questions, please feel free to leave us a message.

    Best regards
