Windows 10: "The specified user does not have a valid profile" after opening specific program

I've just bought a new laptop, and I've started seeing this error message when trying to open certain programs.


When trying to open programs like Acer NitroSense (fan software) or Microsoft Word, I sometimes get an error message saying
"The specified user does not have a valid profile".

Most programs (if not all) giving me this error message are located in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps

So far I might have pinpointed (or at least managed to recreate) the problem to a specific action: Starting a program called Cloudpaging Player.
This program is used to run programs over the internet, without having to download and install said program, and it's used as a part of
my university studies.

Restarting fixes the problem.

When trying to run Microsoft Account Troubleshooter, I get an error saying:
Can't connect to the sync service.
There might be an Internet connection problem or the service may not be available.

after clicking "next", I am told that "Rootcauses found and created logs".


I've also tried resetting my Windows Store (twice or thrice), but not sure I am doing it correctly:
A previous article says to just press Windows key + R, type WSReset.exe, and hit Enter. This only gives me a blank window,
which looks like a normal CMD window, but nothing else happens.



It might also be worth to note that having gone through a lot of different troubleshooting before pinpointing the problem,
I've found I have a problem with the normal permissions of my user (the admin and sole user on my laptop).
I had to change permissions in order to open WindowsApps, but still cannot move or delete files in WindowsApps.

As an aside, how can I give my user full admin permissions and so-on?

Corrupted User Profiles

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild


Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

 

User Profile Service Service failed! User profile cannot be loaded.

I am using registry editor from command prompt. Drilled down to c:windows\system32\config inside the Load Hive dialog window. Have selected (checked box) the SAM file; clicking on Open opens error message that says:


SAM
This file is in use.
Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program.

I am at a loss, since I am not running any other program!

Any suggestions?

The SAM file is listed as being 64KB file size.
