Windows 10: The taskbar and program windows freeze and the only way to unlock them is by using ctrl+alt+del

When I'm working on something, the taskbar and all windows freeze partially. So I can browse on the internet, but can't minimize or close, because the window is frozen. It always happens after 5 or 10 minutes.

The only way for me to be able to use the taskbar and windows, is by pressing ctrl+alt+del and opening Task Manager.


It's strange that it works when I do ctrl+alt+del. It's annoying having to press the shortcut and having to open Task Manager every 10 minutes.


I tried updating windows, restart, update the video driver. I haven't done anything resource intensive or installed any software that makes major changes. I notice that my windows has been crashing twice a week for about two weeks now. Maybe that has something to do with it? What do you think? Thanks a lot.

On a domain you won't get Task Manager when you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del. You get a crazy screen with a bunch of options.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc has always brought up just the Task Manager, even back to Windows XP days. You just weren't aware of it. *Wink

Go ahead, try it in Windows XP too.

The whole Ctrl+Shift+Esc should be used to get that crazy screen with those options and Ctrl+Alt+Del should bring up TM.

Depends on whether you have the Welcome Screen, or the Domain Logon screen at boot up.
