  2. TPM update

Don't know if this is the right place for this thread but whatever, laptop informed me that " a firmware update is needed for you security processor (TPM)," now, i looked up what to do and from a microsoft support thing, the last step says to clear the tpm. it has a warning saying to back up my data, i would like to know what clearing the tpm does, and what measures i need to take to make sure nothing goes wrong.

Impossible to initiate the TPM and to get the TPM owner password after clearing the TPM

Please help with my issue to either initiate the TPM or get the TPM owner password after clearing the TPM. I click the restart button in the Action field in the TPM Management on Local Computer window and the computer reboots
trough the Clear the TPM security hardware dialog window. In the UEFI/Bios environment during reboot I press the F12 key but don't come back to the Initialize the TPM wizard. Instead the TPM Management on Local Computer windows opens automatically and tells
me the TPM is ready for use.

I'm using Windows 10 pro upgrade from Windows 7 and a MSI C236A motherboard with their latest BIOS version. Secure boot is on and I use their firmware TPM. I have the same issue on my other computer with a MSI C236M motherboard
and with that one using both the firmware TPM and MSI's discrete TPM.

The Prepare the TPM link is shaded and numb for clicking and there is no Turn TPM off... link at all in the Action field (as in Windows 8.1). For every option there you need the TPM owner password, which I can’t get.

    Can someone help?

The TPM could not be initialized after BIOS update

Need help on whether to clear TPM on not

It's clear as mud. As far as I can tell, it's specific to Windows, not necessarily activated programs like MacAfee, games, etc etc etc. MS Office, I have no idea.

    Here's a lengthy doc on it: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...initialize-and-configure-ownership-of-the-tpm
