Windows 10: The Webcam and the microphone stopped working after upgrading to Windows 10

Hello !

I'm using the Sony computer, model VPCEH2DFX with the built-in Sony Visual Communication Camera and built-in microphone.

After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7, my camera and microphone no longer works. I reinstalled the drivers, check if anything is using those in process explorer, installed Windows 7 alongside Windows 10, using many camera apps and mic test apps, yet they still don't work. When I open the default Windows 10's Camera app, it flashes two errors Unable to find the camera and Another app is using the camera continuously, as shown below.
I found no process using the camera and microphone when I check in the process explorer. It'd be a pleasure if someone can help me as soon as possible, especially during this pandemic, when we mostly work at home and attend many meetings online.

To address your concern, kindly help us with the following queries:

1. What is the model number of the webcam?
   
2. Which version of Windows is installed on your machine?
   
   (Type winver in the search window and hit
   Enter)
   
3. Were there any changes made prior to this issue?
   
4. Which application are you using to access the webcam?
   
   

This issue could occur due to USB port connection, or the USB drivers. Hence, I would suggest you to try connecting the webcam to a different USB port and try accessing the webcam microphone. Also, to isolate the issue, I would ask you to connect
the webcam to another machine and check if the issue persists. If the issue persists, kindly check the steps listed below and see if it helps.

Method 1 -

Make sure Windows has the latest update: Select the
Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security >
Windows Update > Check for Updates. If there is an available update, select
Install now.

Method 2 -

I would suggest you to update the USB drivers that are installed on your machine. To update the drivers,

• Right click on the
  Start menu and select Device Manager.
  
• Navigate to Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand it.
  
• Right click on each driver and choose
  Update driver.

Your concern description is conclusive to drivers issue. Let's get ourselves on the same page. Usually, there's an error message to show up when you're trying to use it and not working. If you get any, send us a screenshot. We would also like to know the
following:

• Are you using the built-in webcam and microphone or external ones?
• Have you made any modifications/configurations on your computer prior to the issue?
  
• What are the troubleshooting steps you've done so far?

I will be glad to help you with the issue you have with Microphone and Webcam.

What is the make and model of your computer?

Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

This issue might be because of settings related to Microphone.

The issue cab be resolved by making Microphone as the default device and updating the sound card drivers.

Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled and is set as default.

Make sure that the microphone that you are using is not disabled and is set as default in the computer. Follow these steps to check this:

a) Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.

b) Now, right click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.

c) Select “Microphone” and click on “Properties” and make sure that the microphone is enabled.

d) You may also check if the microphone that you are using is set as default.
