Windows 10 stop automatically connecting to random new wi-fi networks

    Hi,

I have searched a lot, but all the tutorials I found only explained how to not connect automatically to a known wi-fi network or how to disable wi-fi sense... but this is not what I am looking for...

    PROBLEM:

    • When my laptop (Windows 10 Pro X64) is not connected to a network and the wireless adapter is on, it will automatically connect to any random new unsecured wi-fi network... The only way I have now to avoid this is to disable my wi-fi adapter.

UNUSEFUL TUTORIALS I FOUND ON THE INTERNET:

    • How to manually uncheck the option for a particular wi-fi network not to connect automatically in Network Properties. This is not what I am looking for. This would suggest that everytime I power my computer. I would have to manually go through all the available wi-fi networks and unclick them all...
    • How to disable Wi-Fi Sense. This is not useful, because I don't even have a Wi-Fi sense option in my computer where the tutorials say it should be.

    EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:

    • I am looking for an option to tell my computer to stop connecting randomly to unknown wi-fi networks like an hyperactive, reckless idiot.

    PERSONAL COMMENT:

    • Honestly, why would any respectable company think that it could be somewhat wise or secure to do this... Anyone's computer could just randomly connect to any hacker's wi-fi network without the user even knowing it...

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  3. Not able to connect to wi-fi network

    Hi Arul,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yesterday when I wrote that query windows not at all detecting the wireless network. And now , today it detected and connected to the network without doing anything. Not sure what's happening, though the problem solved
    somehow.

But jus for your information, I performed few troubleshooting like,

    1. By write click on the Wi-Fi icon and troubleshoot from there and got the error message like "Problem with Wi-Fi adapter or access point
    "

2.Opened the network sharing center and right clicked on the Wi-Fi icon and chose Diagnose option from there and got the same error message as in above step.

3.Updated the Wifi adapter driver and restarted the system and again performed the same steps(1&2). Got the same error.

    4. Then disabled and enabled the drivers and Wi-Fi , but nothing was working

    5. I shut down the laptop and went to sleep, since it's very late by that time

    6. Started the windows normally again by today morning and I found it detected the wireless network.

These are all the steps/ troubleshooting steps I've performed.

The Wi-Fi option on my PC disappeared. Now I'm not able to connect to any wireless networks.

    PC connection issue (Wi-Fi)

I have 2 PCs hooked up, both running Windows 10. My PC in the living room is connected directly to the cable modem and I am using a portable Wi-Fi adapter (Netgear Genie) for my PC in the bedroom. Everything was working fine until a few days ago when I lost my Wi-Fi signal in the bedroom. The Wi-Fi icon disappeared from the taskbar. So I thought it may be the adapter. So I moved the PC into the living room and connected it directly. Well....nothing. There is still no signal. The wi-fi in my house is still active because I'm able to use my cell phone and tablet. So...any suggestions? If what I wrote is unclear let me know. Thanks.
