Windows 10: The .xlsx file type is missing from the file types list and cannot be added

Due to the subject the xlsx files are saved and treated as Internet Explorer files !! and the ways to open them in Excel is either by choosing 'Open With' and select Excel or open Excel first and then open the file through 'File Open'. If I click on the file it tries to open as an IE document!I've tried adding the .xlsx extension in the default file types list but Windows 11 won't let me do it.I checked the Indexing Options File Types and .xlsx is present in the list.

• Click OK.

• Is Microsoft Excel installed on your computer? If yes, which version of Microsoft Excel are you using?
• Are you getting any error messages when opening the .xlsx files?
• Did you create the said file or was it downloaded from a certain source?

Why is "Open with..." context menu list missing one some file types?

I tried that too. For whatever reason, windows is not adding the programs to the "Open with" via the File Explorer and hence essentially Open with stays empty as a button.

I found a registry edit to fix this: 1) find the program id in "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" and then added it as a string to "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zip\OpenWithProgids" or any other file extensions. Now, the Open with finally has the context menu list.

 

file type is not included in the list of types to choose from to associate a file with

in "Choose default apps by file type" in Windows 10, there are two file types that are not listed; how do I add a file type to the list so that I can associate that file type with a file. For example, I often receive a file that has a file type of .stmt
and another fle with a file with the name viewdoc.file. They are both PDF files. But neither of these file types are available for me to choose from in the default list. How do I add them?
