Windows 10: There is a "desktop" notepad file on my desktop. How do i get rid of it?

So today out of the blue as usual another thing bug happened which is that now there is a notepad fie called "desktop" that appeared on my desktop, I really don't know what that is. I tried looking everywhere for an answer but all the tutorials I found were to hide two desktop.ini files, whereas mine is just one and it only says desktop, no ini. What i find really strange is that the "show hidden folders and files" box is unchecked, and when i go to folder options Hide protected operating system files is checked, yet the desktop file is still right there as a desktop icon. How do i remove it s

Creating desktop icon for Notepad txt file

I used to have recent notepad files listed under "Most Used" in the Start menu. How can I restore desired files to the "Most Used" position, or how can I create a desktop icon for a specific Notepad txt file?

 

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

Thank you for posting here in the community. Just follow these steps on how to add Notepad to your desktop:

• Press the Windows button on your keyboard and type Notepad.
• Right-click on the result and click Open file location. You can refer to the screenshot below for reference:

• It will open a new window where the Notepad application is located.
• Right-click on the Notepad app and choose Send to then click Desktop
  (create shortcut). Here's another screenshot for reference:

You should have the Notepad shortcut on your desktop after performing these steps.
