There is no sound coming from the laptop. I can only hear sound with wired headphones. How can I solve this problem?

headphones plugged in but sound coming from speakers

Hi,

My daughter's new laptop (HP Windows 11, purchased 8 months ago) is having an issue with the headphones. In the last couple of days, whenever she plugs them in, the sound still comes from the speakers, not the headphones.

These are simple wired in-ear headphones that work fine on other devices. I've tried other headphones that work fine in other devices, all with the same result.

I've tried setting headphones as the default playback device, but when I select it in the list, Set As Default is greyed out.

I checked the drivers and they are all up to date. I also ran the audio troubleshooter and it found no problems.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

 

No sound in headphones (Windows 10)

I recently upgraded my Asus P500CA laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The upgrade process went fine, however, no sound is coming through my headphones even though there is sound coming out from the laptop's built-in speakers.

Symptoms/what I already tried:

• I hear sound from my computer, but when I plug in the headphones, the sound stops which means they get detected in a way.
  
• The headphones don't appear in Sound (control panel) so I'm not able to select them.
  
  • I have enabled "Show disabled devices" in Sound, however, nothing changes.
    
• I have updated all sound-related drivers in Device Manager (if I try to update driver software again, Windows says it is already up-to-date).
  
• I have tried 2 different sets of headphones and neither of them work.
  
• I have a dual-boot, and from the other OS, I can hear the sound coming out of the headphones, which means the jack isn't damaged in any way.
  

I really don't know what the problem could be - I tried searching online but without any success. Does anybody know what else I could try?

 

No sound from wired headphones

I have a pair of wired headphones but i cannot hear sound when connected to front heasphone jack on my Asus pc and investigated Realtek HD Audio Manager settings but cannot see anything happen when headphones connected the front audio jacks appear greyed out and have ticked show disabled devices and show disconnected devices and no headphone icon appears anywhere in sound properties section

Previously i had a pair of Logitech desktop speakers with bass speaker which were mains powered and my headphones worked ok and now have a pair of Creative speakers which are connected to pc via Usb...could this be the problem ?

My OS is Windows 10 Pro with latest updates.

Any help would be appreciated.
