  1. Thinking of moving back to Windows

    Have been using Mac for quite a few years (long story). Don't get me wrong, I do love it but I'm sick and tired of its lack of backward compatibility.

    When I last had a real Win machine (which I built myself...Good times!), it needed a firewall, virus scanner and a lead lined box - but I'm lead to believe that this is no longer the case.

    I don't want to get into a Mac/Win argument. Rather, I'd like to know if it's relatively simple these days to keep a Win machine secure. Do the security features that come with Win these days do the job?

    Thanks!

    Thinking about Going back to Win8.1

    If want to disable IE, still can. However, can't uninstall it like were able to in XP/98/whatever.
    Here's how, although I find it useful in case Chrome or Firefox stops working and have to re-download it. *Wink
    1. Search for turn windows features on or off and click it in the search results.

    2. When the app opens, uncheck Internet Explorer 11.

    5. Restart for the changes to finish.

    Newbie needs advice moving Win8.1 ==> Win10

    In your shoes I would
    1. Take a backup of the OS drive with Macrium Reflect, as suggested
    2. Download the ISO and do an Upgrade install (step 7 in this tutorial)
    Macrium gives you a way back if the upgrade doesn't work, and I also think that doing an Upgrade install is probably likely to be your quickest route to being activated on Windows 10 by the deadline.

    Once activated, you can consider doing a clean install later but without the time pressure.
