    Hello,


    the popup with the message "This app can't run on your pc" appears when I try to open a file

    with .dat extension with excel 2016 pro on a windows 10 pro.

    However I can import those .dat files in excel 2016 without any problem.


    I can also open them doble click on the file from a windows server 2012 datacenter using excel 2013.


    The .dat extension is associated to be opened with excel and I've disabled smart screen settings on my w10.



    I've also disabled some security local policies in order to see if I could fix the problem but it didn't work.


    Can anybody help me?

    You are supposed to double click on the entry for .xls in control Panel > Set Associations and in the window that opens choose "More Apps" then in the file explorer window that opens up browse to the Excel executable and select it.

    So launch Excel and leave it running. Start Task Manager [Ctrl+Shift+Esc]

    In task manager processes tab scroll to excel.exe and right click on it. Choose "open file location" from the list and in the window that opens locate excel.exe and note the folder path. Use that path to browse to the executable in the step above that mentions browsing to the executable.

    What is going on with Microsoft easy of use?

    I just updated MS Windows and suddenly all my EXCEL 2016 files in One Drive only opens in EXCEL 2016 Online. When I select to open in MS EXCEL 2016 I receive a message "You'll need a new app to open this ms-excel" Look for an app in the Store.

    It is really getting annoying using Microsoft with all those sudden changes that forces you to spend time trying to find out solutions!!!!
