I realize that this question was answered at the posting with the identical title by Jason Schempp. However, the individual who solved the problem advised me to post a new question to describe my situation. In my system all of the cases that produce the "This file does not..." error have occurred in Mozilla Thunderbird TB. TB periodically reports that an update is available and I always let TB upload the update. Which means that the TB software was up to date when the errors in question were observed. I first ran sfc/scannow. It reported: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any

When clicking the files getting error that the file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.

• What file are you trying to open?

This issue is caused if the file is not associated with any of the application or program to open it.

If those files are the pictures as I can see that you are trying to access the picture folder. I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if the issue resolves.

• Right click on the file and select Open with.
• Select Photo App or Photo Gallery.
• Double click and check if you are able to open that file.

I'm sure what you mean re User Accounts what is listed under Mail. There were no mail references. Same with Set defaults by app.

Unfortunately MS made sure to make it as difficult as possible, only registered apps can be set as default.




Like in Thunderbird for example, you have to set it up as default from within first.
