Windows 10: This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action......

I am so sick of this error! I've googled the the **** out of this and none of the proposed solutions worked.I have tried:1. the isStartup registry edit - those keys were already present2. SFC /Scannow3. DISM 4. reset default programsThis does NOT happen when i click on a file! this happens randomly in File Explorer and it for the whole drive... meaning the root D:\ or E:\. The drives indicated are both external USB drives of different manufacturers. How do I make this go away???

• What file are you trying to open?

This issue is caused if the file is not associated with any of the application or program to open it.

If those files are the pictures as I can see that you are trying to access the picture folder. I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if the issue resolves.

• Right click on the file and select Open with.
• Select Photo App or Photo Gallery.
• Double click and check if you are able to open that file.

I'm sure what you mean re User Accounts what is listed under Mail. There were no mail references. Same with Set defaults by app.

Unfortunately MS made sure to make it as difficult as possible, only registered apps can be set as default.




Like in Thunderbird for example, you have to set it up as default from within first.
