Hi, like the title states this is a hand me down computer and I keep getting a message when I go to activate that I can't activate due to not being able to connect to the company's activation server...

Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks

    :)

    Hand-Me-Down Computers and Licensing

Regarding hand-me-down computers; if I get a new computer during the year, I will gift my old computer (the whole kit and cabooodle) to a family member or friend for Christmas and in some cases I have received their old computer in a swap.

My first question is; How do I go about transferring the License(s) from my account to the gift receivers account?

My second question is; How to transfer licenses from a hand-me-down swap?

And my last question; or are either/both question moot?

    [WTB][US]   New Computer for Dad

EDIT: Found a computer and picked it up today thanks to Kantastic! *Smile This is a hand me down computer from my dad, and it used to be owned by Microsoft. Is there... :)

I'm visiting my family in Florida in the next few weeks and would love to surprise my step-Dad with a new computer. What he has right now is very old and outdated (think 64MB of DDR memory)! *Eek! This is a hand me down computer from my dad, and it used to be owned by Microsoft. Is there...

My step-Dad is a musician and I'd like to find him a computer for music recording and editing.

The specs aren't set in stone, but ideally I think I'd like to get him a computer with the following:
    - Newer dual/quad core CPU
    - 500GB HDD
    - 4GB RAM (DDR3 if possible)
    - CD/DVD Burner

This is going to be a gift so I'd like to try to keep the price down if possible.

All of his peripherals are outdated as well so if you could spare an extra keyboard, mouse, etc. that would be much appreciated but of course not required.

Let me know what you guys have, please help me help him out - he's a really good guy. *Smile This is a hand me down computer from my dad, and it used to be owned by Microsoft. Is there... :)

linking this device to my microsoft acount to use xbox app or other microsoft progams

    Hi Seef,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We'd like to get more information regarding the issue.

    1. Do you have child account?
    2. Are you using Microsoft Store link to download the app?
    3. Check if you are able to download the app in your Dad’s account?

We would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

    1. Try to sign out and sign in back in to computer.
    2. Try to sign in to Microsoft store app with your Microsoft account
    3. Then try downloading the app from the Microsoft Store App.

    Looking forward to your response.
